Yes, the free model is one to consider. The biggest quandry is to figure how much. Most of us want to create full time and many abhor our day jobs. The prospect of making money to go full time is so very appealing that it becomes a difficult decision to release all that hard work for free.
But, yes. Maybe it is necessary.
