Hey guys,
I’ve been keeping an eye on Patreon, and I think there’s definitely something to it – especially for works or projects that release on a regular basis like Functional Nerds.
One of the things I like about Patreon is that you can indicate that you’re going to kick in $X per month *or* $X per episode, so folks can just set a fixed amount and know that’s what’s coming out of their budget.
With models like Kickstarter and Patreon, I really want to help when people ask for funding to support their awesome projects, and so I’m very susceptible to over-committing. I would happily support Functional Nerds on Patreon, since I’ve been enjoying the show for quite a while, and I think FN fills an important niche in the SF/F podcast world. But fiscally speaking, I know it wouldn’t be more than a couple of bucks a month, since I need to keep my crowdfunding budget under control (better than I’ve been doing previously).
Also, I’d be all about a World Fantasy Barbecue.
Best,
Mike
“The Girl From Ipanema”? I love that song! 😛
Guys,
It would be great to see some of the gogle hang out rewards. There are often times on the pdasts where usually parick pulls some joke or visual out that makes everyone involved laugh and as a listener I feel a little left out. Offering google ang outs as a reward would be a great idea! There are also two authors I would love to hear/see if you could get them, Scott Lynch and Larry Correia. Anyways thats my thoughts for now. Thanks for the show it really is something that I look forward to every week.
What about ICON in Iowa in November? Elizabeth Bear and Scott Lynch are GoHs…
The other podcaster I know who is doing Patreon is Emma Newman. You might look at her page for ideas

You can have other people giving their picks of the week for rewards. Maybe you can do short interviews with your fans and get to know them a little bit.
Great suggestions everyone.
I’m willing to throw a little monetary support for a well-done podcast. Let’s all pitch in, in whatever way we can, to support the things we love!
