Episode 129 – Jonah Knight

On December 11, 2012, in Podcast, by Patrick Hester

In the 129th episode of the Functional Nerds podcast, Patrick Hester and John Anealio welcome Jonah Knight back to talk about his new album and holiday tie-ins.

About Jonah:

A few years ago Jonah Knight was your garden variety singer/songwriter performing songs about girls and bars. In 2010 he changed course and started writing songs about ghosts, monsters, super heroes, and steampunk. In the past few years he has made a name for himself by performing at Conventions around the mid-Atlantic region. He had been contracted by Mercury Retrograde Press to write a series of songs based on their novels. He co-hosts the Pros And Cons podcast, a show about geek music and convention culture. And he has recently released his sixth album, Another Creepy Christmas, a collection of, you got it, creepy Christmas songs. His website is JonahOfTheSea.com and he is @JonahOfTheSea on Twitter.

It’s interesting that you joked about making charging for the Podcast. I think that would be excellent. Not giving up the free Podcast, mind you but do a show, cut out a major block, or save some segments for an extended version.

Seriously. Have the regular Functional Nerds and then a Fully Functional Nerds that people can subscribe to. I think you’d be surprised at the number of people who would.

In the software they call this the Freemium model, and it’s proven a great model getting for customers. I’d be happy pay (what little I can afford) for your content. The show is great. It’s well produced and reliably publishes every week. It’s hard to find a more professional podcast. Trust me I’ve looked.

Thanks Matthew! Appreciate the kind words. We actually spoke about freemium models in the upcoming episode.

We’ll have to discuss doing some sort of paid bonus content at some point.

      Thanks for the suggestion!

  2. Joe H. says:

Fun interview! But I did have one thought: When you have a musician for a guest, maybe drop in some song excerpts during the interview, or maybe play something over the closing, just to give us a sample?
